WE’RE STARTING – Return to Play Protocol Policies and Forms

From the Board of Directors:

As a follow-up to our newsletter of June 19, 2020, we are pleased to report that the City of Toronto Public Health unit is now allowing us to move into Phase 1 of the Ontario Soccer’s “Return to Play” plan.  As we prepare for the summer season, it will be a different program for the first 4 weeks of July.  For this first phase of soccer for the summer there will be no player contact, social distancing is maintained, individual training with a coach, no group drills and no league or exhibition games.  We are asking each parent to take a moment and read the documents posted on our website (and attached to this newsletter) that will give you an overview of our summer soccer season going forward.  Based on the facts that this is a late start to the program, we will extend the program through September 2020.  More details will be provided in early August regarding this timeline.

As we return to a normal soccer environment, we will be a implementing a very controlled process day to day, week to week, to integrate soccer back into our facility following the Public Health Units directives and adhering strictly to the Ontario Soccer’s “Return to Play” plan.  These phases of play as outlined in the plan will be constantly monitored and adjusted based on Public Health Unit directives and guidelines.  (click here to access The Plan)

We will start the process with Parent / Club “Return to Play” Orientation Sessions on Monday July 6th, and Tuesday July 7th On the Monday, Tuesday that week we will invite a parent to attend the clubhouse to ask questions, pick up equipment (water bottle, soccer ball and uniform kit) and sign-off on our “Return to Play” registration documents.  For parents who have multiple children playing in our club you will only need to attend one session to complete all the necessary paperwork and pick up your child’s equipment etc.  Watch this short video on how the orientation sessions will work.

Tuesday July 7, 2020

Tuesday July 7, 2020
7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
11, 12, and 13 yr old age groups

After these two orientation days, we will not be able to start on field activities immediately as the City of Toronto Public Health have placed a restriction whereby only 10 persons can be on a field at any given time.  To clarify, groups will have to limit the size of their training to 10 people, regardless of the facility size and space.

Once we are given permission to enter phase two of the “Return to Play” plan, all age groups will then be allowed to participate in inter-squad games and activities.   One issue we need to understand is that projected dates on implementation of each phase of the “Return to Play” program cannot be confirmed or anticipated.  It is anticipated that each phase of the “Return to Play” plan will last between two to four weeks.  We will do our best each week to keep you informed of progress from a timing perspective.

In following the Public Health Unit’s directives and guidelines, we have already implemented very progressive and deliberate steps to ensure all safety and disinfecting practices and protocols are in place at the Club.  On arrival at the club, you will witness new changes and initiatives.  We have produced a video for you to view which will show you what to expect on your arrival the first night.  All our initiatives are all geared towards enhancing the health and well-being of our players, coaches, match officials and parents.  The Ontario Soccer “Return to Play” plan will provide us with the tools and resources needed to ensure we constantly and consistently maintain a safe environment for everyone at the Toronto Azzurri Soccer Club.

It is good to see that progress is being made in reinstating all aspects of community activities.  Working together, we will have a different type of summer soccer season this year; however, please be assured we will provide the best programs and services that we can at Toronto Azzurri Soccer Club.

In summary, having seen all the changes and adjustments being made across sport in the province of Ontario, the Board of Directors has agreed that those parents not wanting to participate for the 2020 summer soccer program will receive a full credit voucher which will be applied to the 2021 summer soccer season.  For those parents who are participating through the 2020 summer program you will receive a $50.00 credit voucher towards your 2021 Summer Soccer season registration fee.

We continue to work hard at providing the best services and programs that we can under the current conditions.  We thank every one of you for your patience, understanding and continued support.
