National Coaches Week – THANK YOU!!

The Board of Directors would like to take a moment and say “THANK YOU” to all our coaches who volunteer their time to share their passion and experience with our athletes.  We are very fortunate, especially this year with the pandemic, to have members of our community to help us put on a program every week.

Take a moment and thank your coach this week.

Thank You Kisko

This past week our house league sponsor Kisko Freezies, visited us and gave each child a free sample to enjoy at the end of the evening.  Here are just a few photos from those nights – again THANK YOU to Kisko.

REMINDER – Monday & Wednesday night

As many of you know we changed this past week back to our usual Monday and Wednesday nights.  The Under 4 to Under 9 year olds will now practice and scrimmage from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on the stadium field.  Then the Under 10 to U16 year olds will take over the field from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Come prepared to practice and play.

When you sign in each night, check which field you are on while receiving your wrist bracelet.  Of course this comes after you had your temperature checked and the Symptoms Checklist form completed.   You can print the Symptoms Checklist ahead of time and bring completed to the temperature window to make things quicker.

Note:  Our indoor facility still remains closed as we are not able to maintain cleanliness in this current environment.

Any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us at information@torontoazzurri.com or call 416.782.1578

Outdoor 2020 Update

Dear Coaches, Parents and Guardians of players in our TASC Outdoor 2020 program,

We trust that you are all keeping safe and well during these unparalleled times. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience, support, and cooperation as we continue to deliver modified programming to all participants.

Although this is not the season that we all planned for or anticipated, we are doing our very best, to navigate through all regulations and protocols as required by all levels of government, health officials and our sport governing bodies.  To keep are participants, volunteers, parents and staff safe, the TASC has and continues to purchase PPE products.  Our offices and dressing rooms continue to remain closed.

With the City of Toronto moving to Stage 3 as of July 31, 2020, we are now allowed to increase the number of players in groups and provide inter-squad games within our club only.  This now allows us to decrease our number of nights from 4 back to our originally scheduled nights of Monday and Wednesday evenings.

I have attached for you the newest Provincial / City of Toronto guidelines we will be following.

Stage 3 Provincial Order updates:

  • Amateur and recreational sports leagues may resume so long as they do not allow prolonged or deliberate physical contact between players or if they have modifications to avoid physical contact between players.
  • Leagues must contain no more than 50 participant’s total. If participants in a league exceed 50, the league may divide into smaller groups of no more than 50. Players are not yet permitted to play against players outside of their league or group.
  • Prolonged or deliberate contact while playing sports is not permitted.
  • The total number of spectators permitted to be at the facility at any one time must be limited to the number that can maintain a physical distance of at least two meters from every other person in the facility, and in any event cannot exceed 100 spectators for outdoor facilities.
  • The maximum limits on spectator numbers applies to spectators only, not to athletes, coaches and staff as well.

In summary as of Monday August 10, 2020, and for the balance of the summer schedule the Under 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 year old players, will now commence their training from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday evenings.  The Under 10, 11,12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 year-old players will commence their training from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

All our health checks and protocols remain in place for every session or event we offer.

Thank you once again for your support, patience and cooperation and trust you continue to stay safe and well.

Any questions or concerns please call the office at 416-782-1578 or e-mail information@torontoazzurri.com

July 2020 Update – Board of Directors

 July 2020 Update

From the Board of Directors:

On Monday July 13, 2020 we launched our summer soccer summer program here at the Toronto Azzurri Soccer Club.  Our first week was a success as identified through the coaching and parent surveys we circulated last week.  We want to thank those persons who took the time to complete the surveys.  These give us the opportunity to improve and deliver our services and programs.

We were hopeful that the City of Toronto would receive permission this week from the Province to move to stage 3 which would allow us to begin Phase 2 of our Return to Play program.  Unfortunately, the City was not granted the next step and we are forced to stay at Phase 1 of our program.  Hopefully over the next two weeks the Provincial government will allow the City of Toronto to move to the Stage 3.

When we move to Phase 2 of our Return to Play program the following will be allowed:

  • Conditions: Inter-squad modified games (only within our club)
  • Restrictions: No league, exhibition, festival or tournament games.

Social distancing, hand sanitizing and sterilization measures will still be in place.  The Club building will remain closed.

As we move through the summer months we will continue to implement a very controlled process day to day, week to week, to integrate soccer back into our facility following the Public Health Unit, City of Toronto  directives and adhering strictly to the Ontario Soccer’s “Return to Play” plan.  These phases of play as outlined in the plan will be constantly monitored and adjusted. (click here to access The Plan)

On another note, on Sunday evenings, we will begin implementing a new program called the “Rising Stars”.  The program will take place between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at our Stadium Field.  At this time, there is no additional charge to attend this program.  In this program players will be exposed to a higher more intense standard of training supervised directly by our professional Club Technical Lead Coach, Franco Perilli.  Any athlete between the age of 10 and 17 who is interested in joining this program please e-mail and register with us at information@torontoazzurri.com

If you have any questions or concerns about our services or programs, please call the office at 416-782-1578.  We are also asking each parent to take a moment and read the documents posted on our website (and view links in this letter) that will give you an overview of our summer soccer season going forward.  More details will be provided in early August.

We continue to work hard at providing the best services and programs that we can under the current conditions.  We thank every one of you for your patience, understanding and continued support.

Lastly a special thank-you to all the staff, parents and volunteers who have stepped up to assist us during this difficult time.  You represent the heart and soul of our club.

More details to follow!

WE’RE STARTING – Return to Play Protocol Policies and Forms

From the Board of Directors:

As a follow-up to our newsletter of June 19, 2020, we are pleased to report that the City of Toronto Public Health unit is now allowing us to move into Phase 1 of the Ontario Soccer’s “Return to Play” plan.  As we prepare for the summer season, it will be a different program for the first 4 weeks of July.  For this first phase of soccer for the summer there will be no player contact, social distancing is maintained, individual training with a coach, no group drills and no league or exhibition games.  We are asking each parent to take a moment and read the documents posted on our website (and attached to this newsletter) that will give you an overview of our summer soccer season going forward.  Based on the facts that this is a late start to the program, we will extend the program through September 2020.  More details will be provided in early August regarding this timeline.

As we return to a normal soccer environment, we will be a implementing a very controlled process day to day, week to week, to integrate soccer back into our facility following the Public Health Units directives and adhering strictly to the Ontario Soccer’s “Return to Play” plan.  These phases of play as outlined in the plan will be constantly monitored and adjusted based on Public Health Unit directives and guidelines.  (click here to access The Plan)

We will start the process with Parent / Club “Return to Play” Orientation Sessions on Monday July 6th, and Tuesday July 7th On the Monday, Tuesday that week we will invite a parent to attend the clubhouse to ask questions, pick up equipment (water bottle, soccer ball and uniform kit) and sign-off on our “Return to Play” registration documents.  For parents who have multiple children playing in our club you will only need to attend one session to complete all the necessary paperwork and pick up your child’s equipment etc.  Watch this short video on how the orientation sessions will work.

ORIENTATION DATES AND TIMES

 Monday July 6, 2020
4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
4, 5, 6, 7 yr old age groups

Monday July 6, 2020
7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
14 to 17 yr old age groups

Tuesday July 7, 2020
4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
8, 9 and 10 yr old age groups

Tuesday July 7, 2020
7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
11, 12, and 13 yr old age groups

After these two orientation days, we will not be able to start on field activities immediately as the City of Toronto Public Health have placed a restriction whereby only 10 persons can be on a field at any given time.  To clarify, groups will have to limit the size of their training to 10 people, regardless of the facility size and space.

Once we are given permission to enter phase two of the “Return to Play” plan, all age groups will then be allowed to participate in inter-squad games and activities.   One issue we need to understand is that projected dates on implementation of each phase of the “Return to Play” program cannot be confirmed or anticipated.  It is anticipated that each phase of the “Return to Play” plan will last between two to four weeks.  We will do our best each week to keep you informed of progress from a timing perspective.

In following the Public Health Unit’s directives and guidelines, we have already implemented very progressive and deliberate steps to ensure all safety and disinfecting practices and protocols are in place at the Club.  On arrival at the club, you will witness new changes and initiatives.  We have produced a video for you to view which will show you what to expect on your arrival the first night.  All our initiatives are all geared towards enhancing the health and well-being of our players, coaches, match officials and parents.  The Ontario Soccer “Return to Play” plan will provide us with the tools and resources needed to ensure we constantly and consistently maintain a safe environment for everyone at the Toronto Azzurri Soccer Club.

It is good to see that progress is being made in reinstating all aspects of community activities.  Working together, we will have a different type of summer soccer season this year; however, please be assured we will provide the best programs and services that we can at Toronto Azzurri Soccer Club.

In summary, having seen all the changes and adjustments being made across sport in the province of Ontario, the Board of Directors has agreed that those parents not wanting to participate for the 2020 summer soccer program will receive a full credit voucher which will be applied to the 2021 summer soccer season.  For those parents who are participating through the 2020 summer program you will receive a $50.00 credit voucher towards your 2021 Summer Soccer season registration fee.

We continue to work hard at providing the best services and programs that we can under the current conditions.  We thank every one of you for your patience, understanding and continued support.

More details will follow this week!
